Racing the Rieju

The Rieju Marathon 200 got an excellent try out in race conditions last weekend.
UKXC Magazine Editor Tim Tighe entered the GBXC Sprint Cross competition, his first time on a bike in a competitive situation for over 12 years. Tim succeeded in completing 10 sprint challenges at Ashby de la Zouch in an event organised by four times ex-World Enduro Champion Paul ‘Fast Eddy’ Edmondson.
The testing lap included a variety of challenges, which both Tim and the Marathon 200 rose to and took in their stride.
Tim Tighe: ‘I really enjoyed the event and it was the Rieju Marathon 200 that made it so enjoyable. I was a little daunted at the prospect of competing at 52 years of age with over a dozen years since my last competitive outing but the Rieju was completely suited to my needs.
Suspension and handling was spot on, the only modification I had made was to fit a pair of Michelin enduro tyres to the bike.

For riders such as myself who ride off-road occasionally the Marathon 200 was perfect, it was manageable with no hidden surprises and I will be competing on it regularly in the future.’
Sunday saw Blood, Sweat & Gears TV presenter Paul Minihane enter the Sportsman class of the Great Britain XC Championship, again on the Marathon 200.
The two-hour race would prove to be quite a test for the bike but a test that it passed with flying colours.
Senior class moto-x rider Paul completed six laps of the huge cross country enduro course, across stubble fields, through woodland and a few very sticky section in the two hour period allotted for the race.
Paul Minihane: ‘I initially thought the Marathon 200 might be under-powered for someone my weight and size but it really surprised me.
The bike absolutely flew through the very muddy sections, passing bikes of much higher capacity, the suspension was spot-on and the 200 handled like a dream.
If I were an occasional off-road rider, or new to the sport of enduro, I would have no hesitation in buying a Marathon 200. It is an easy bike to ride and I found it got me out of more than a few sticky spots and it handled exceptionally well.’
